Roland Collection of Videos & Films on Art - also Prehistoric Art

Roland Collection of Videos & Films on Art - also Prehistoric Art

We ran across this website by chance.

The Roland Collection of Videos & Films on Art is a tremendous "pay to buy" collection of art films and art videos - all titles are available for sale - but the site also offers free viewing of 450 complete films on-line. Available by art period are:

Early Cultures
First Civilisations
Africa
Pre-Columbian America
Romanesque and Gothic
Renaissance and Mannerism
Northern Renaissance
Rembrandt
Baroque and Rococo
Neo-classicists and Romantics
The Victorians
Impressionists and Post Impressionists
Art Nouveau
Expressionism
Cubism and Futurism
Into Abstraction
The Bauhaus and De Stijl
Dada and Surrealism
Modern Masters
Modern and Contemporary Sculptors
Contemporary Painters
New Directions - New Dimensions
Modern Architecture and Design

Unfortunately, surely in order to urge the viewer to buy the original quality video or film, online quality is only top at "100%" - a very small screeb size (though the films and videos are also viewable at e.g. 300% or larger screen size). Pull the right lower edge of the RealPlayer display to play with size.

Still, it is terrific stuff, e.g. take a look at Tassili N'Ajjer - Prehistoric Rock Paintings of the Sahara.

Stars Stones and Scholars - Megaliths as Prehistoric Art

Stars Stones Scholars
Stars Stones and Scholars:
The Decipherment of the Megaliths as an Ancient Survey of the Earth by Astronomy

by Andis Kaulins

Links to this new book, which bears greatly on the issue of prehistoric art, are:

Trafford Publishing
StarsStonesScholars.com
AndisKaulins.com

The primary hypothesis of Stars Stones and Scholars is that the megaliths represent ancient surveys of the earth by astronomy, and that these feats of ancient surveying and of ancient surveyors can be reconstructed.

Moreover, these megaliths are often carved with figures in stone - thus far unrecognized or ignored - and many of these figures are among the greatest works of mankind's ancient sculpting art. We will be showing examples of these here.

There is an affiliated list related to the megalithic subjects of this book and related topics at History of Civilization.

Prehistoric Art Resources

The top-ranked website at Google for Prehistoric Art Resources is Chris Witcombe's Art History Resources.

Witcombe is a Professor of Art History at Sweet Briar College, Virginia whose site presents copious links to art resources around the web.

However, as of the date of the writing of this blog, Witcombe does not have our site megaliths.co.uk listed, so that we must regard his site as being incomplete.

From the official government side, the European Union has started a website called European Prehistoric Art.

Great about this site are the clickable maps of prehistoric art.

We will look at prehistoric art websites in detail in coming blog postings.
